Translation: I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from His anger and punishment, from the evil of His servants, and from the madness and appearance of devils

3: Dua for Difficulty Sleeping

Recite the following dua, if one feels difficulty in sleeping.

اللَّهُمَّ غَارَتِ النُّجُومُ وَهَدَأَتِ الْعُيُونُ وَأَنْتَ حَيُ قَيُّومُ لَا تَأْخُذُكَ سِنَةٌ وَلَا نَوْمُ يَا حَيُّ يَا قَيُّومُ أَهْدِ لَيْلِي وَأَنِمْ عَيْنِي

Pronunciation: Allāhumma ghārati n-nujūm, wa-hada’ati l-ʿuyūn, wa anta Ḥayyun Qayyūm, lā ta’khudhuka sinatun wa-lā nawm, yā Ḥayyu yā Qayyūm, ahdi laylī wa-anim ʿayni
Translation: O Allah, the stars have set and the eyes are calm, and You are the Ever-Living, the Self-Subsisting. Slumber does not seize You, nor sleep. O Ever-Living, O Self-Subsisting, make my night quiet and let my eyes sleep

4: Dua for protection from harm, Jinn, and evil

Ayat al-Kursi is the most powerful dua for absolute protection. The Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) confirmed that anyone who recites this verse before sleeping will have a guardian from Allah protect them, and no devil (Shaytan or evil Jinn) can approach them until morning.

اللَّهُ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّومُ ۚ لَا تَأْخُذُهُ سِنَة وَلَا نَوْمٌ ۚ لَّهُ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الْأَرْضِ ۗ مَن ذَا الَّذِي يَشْفَعُ عِندَهُ إِلَّا بِإِذْنِهِ ۚ يَعْلَمُ مَا بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَمَا خَلْفَهُمْ ۖ وَلَا يُحِيطُونَ بِشَيْءٍ مِّنْ عِلْمِهِ إِلَّا بِمَا شَاءَ ۚ وَسِعَ كُرْسِيُّهُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ ۖ وَلَا يَئُودُهُ حِفْظُهُمَا ۚ وَهُوَ الْعَلِيُّ الْعَظِيمُ

Pronunciation: Allāhu lā ilāha illā huwal-ḥayyul-qayyūm, lā ta’khudhuhu sinatun wa lā nawm, lahu mā fis-samāwāti wa mā fil-arḍ, man dhalladhī yashfa‘u ‘indahu illā bi-idhnihi, ya‘lamu mā bayna aydīhim wa mā khalfahum, wa lā yuḥīṭūna bi-shay’im-min ‘ilmihi illā bimā shā’, wasi‘a kursiyyuhus-samāwāti wal-arḍ, wa lā ya’ūduhu ḥifẓuhumā, wa huwal-‘aliyyul-‘aẓīm
Translation: Allah! There is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of all existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is [presently] before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great.

5: Dua of Absolute Protection

Reciting this dua protects you completely from any sudden affliction or hidden harm, including the malicious intent of Jinn or people. Repeat this 3 times in the evening before sleeping.

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الَّذِي لَا يَضُرُّ مَعَ اسْمِهِ شَيْءٌ فِ الْأَرْضِ وَلَا فِي السَّمَاءِ وَهُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ

Pronunciation: Bismillahil-ladhi la yadurru ma’as-mihi shai’un fil-ardi wa la fis-sama’i, wa Huwas-Sami’ul-‘Alim
Translation: In the Name of Allah, with Whose Name nothing on the earth or in the heaven can cause harm, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing

6: Surah Baqarah Last 2 Ayat before Sleeping

The Holy Prophet (PBUH) said whoever recites the last two verses of Surah Al-Baqarah at night, they will suffice him

آمَنَ الرَّسُولُ بِمَا أُنزِلَ إِلَيْهِ مِن رَّبِّهِ وَالْمُؤْمِنُونَ ۚ كُلٌّ آمَنَ بِاللَّهِ وَمَلَائِكَتِهِ وَكُتُبِهِ وَرُسُلِهِ لَا نُفَرِّقُ بَيْنَ أَحَدٍ مِّن رُّسُلِهِ وَقَالُوا سَمِعْنَا وَأَطَعْنَا ۖ غُفْرَانَكَ رَبِّنَا وَإِلَيْكَ الْمَصِيرُ لَا يُكَلِّفُ اللَّهُ نَفْسًا إِلَّا وُسْعَهَا ۚ لَهَا مَا كَسَبَتْ وَعَلَيْهَا مَا اكْتَسَبَتْ ۗ رَبَّنَا لَا تُؤَاخِذْنَا إِن نَّسِينَا أَوْ أَخْطَأْنَا ۚ رَبَّنَا وَلَا تَحْمِلْ عَلَيْنَا إِصْرًا كَمَا حَمَلْتَهُ عَلَى الَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِنَا ۚ رَبَّنَا وَلَا تُحَمِّلْنَا مَا لَا طَاقَةَ لَنَا بِهِ ۖ وَاعْفُ عَنَّا وَاغْفِرْ لَنَا وَارْحَمْنَا ۚ أَنتَ مَوْلَانَا فَانصُرْنَا عَلَى الْقَوْمِ الْكَافِرِينَ

Pronunciation: آmana alrrasoolu bimā unzila ilayhi min rabbihī waalmu’minūna kullun āmana billāhi wamalā’ikatihi wakutubihī warusulihī lā nufarriqu bayna aḥadin min rusulihī waqālū sami’nā wa-aṭa’nā ghufrānaka rabbanā wa-ilayka almasīr Lā yukallifu Allāhu nafsan illā wus’ahā lahā mā kasabat waʿalayhā maktasabat rabbanā lā tu’ākhidhnā in nasi’nā aw akhta’nā rabbanā walā taḥmil ʿalaynā iṣran kamā ḥamaltahu ʿalā allaḏīna min qablinā rabbanā walā tuḥammiḏnā mā lā ṭāqata lanā bihī waʿfu ʿannā waighfir lanā wairḥamnā anta mawlānā faanṣurnā ʿalā alqawmi alkāfirīn
Translation: The Messenger has believed in what was revealed to him from his Lord, and [so have] the believers. All of them have believed in Allah and His angels and His books and His messengers, [saying], “We make no distinction between any of His messengers.” And they say, “We hear and we obey. We seek your forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the destination.

7: When sudden wake up at Night

Waking up suddenly in the middle of the night due to restlessness, a sound, or a nightmare can be distressing. However, if you recite this dua upon waking, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) promised that any invocation or request for forgiveness you make immediately afterward will be accepted by Allah.

Hazrat Ubada bin As-Samit reported that  The Prophet (ﷺ) said “Whoever gets up at night and says this dua then And then says: Allahumma, Ighfir li (O Allah! Forgive me). Or invokes (Allah), he will be responded to and if he performs ablution (and prays), his prayer will be accepted.

لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لاَ شَرِيكَ لَهُ، لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَ الْحَمْدُ، وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ‏.‏ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ، وَسُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ، وَلاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ، وَاللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ، وَلاَ حَوْلَ وَلاَ قُوَّةَ إِلاَّ بِاللَّهِ‏

Pronunciation: laa ilaaha il-lal-laa-hu waḥdahu laa shareeka lah, lahul-mulku wa lahul-ḥamd, wa huwa ‛alaa kulli shay’in qadeer, al-ḥamdu lil-laah, wa subḥaanallah, wa laa ilaaha il-lal-laah, wal-laa-hu akbar, wa laa ḥawla wa laa quw-wata il-laa bil-laahil, allahummagh-fir lee
Translation: None has the right to be worshipped but Allah. He is the Only One and has no partners . For Him is the Kingdom and all the praises are due for Him. He is Omnipotent. All the praises are for Allah. All the glories are for Allah. And none has the right to be worshipped but Allah, And Allah is Great And there is neither Might nor Power Except with Allah. O my Lord forgive me

8: Dua Before Sleeping: Seeking Allah's Mercy

Hazrat Abu Hurayrah (RA) reported that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) instructed that before reciting this dua, a person should dust their bed three times with the edge of their garment, as they do not know what may have settled on it during the day. Recite this beautiful and authentic prophetic bedtime supplication one time before sleeping
بِاسْمِكَ رَبِّي وَضَعْتُ جَنْبِي، وَبِكَ أَرْفَعُهُ، فَإ أَمْسَكْتَ نَفْسِي فَارْحَمْهَا، وَإِنْ أَرْسَلْتَهَا فَاحْفَظْهَا بِمَا تَحْفَظُ بِهِ عِبَادَكَ الصَّالِحِينَ

Pronunciation: Bismika rabbee wadaAAtu janbee wabika arfaAAuh, fa-in amsakta nafsee farhamha, wa-in arsaltaha fahfathha bima tahfathu bihi AAibadakas-saliheen
Translation: In Your name, my Lord, I lay down my side, and in Your name, I lift it up. If You take my soul, have mercy on it, and if You return it, protect it as You protect Your righteous servants

9: Surah Al-Ikhlas: A Barrier of Absolute Faith Before Sleep

Hazrat Aishah (RA) reported that whenever Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) went to bed every night, he used to cup his hands together, blow over them after reciting Surah Al-Ikhlas, Surah Al-Falaq, and Surah An-Nas, and then rub his hands over whatever parts of his body he was able to rub, starting with his head, face, and front of his body. He used to do that three times.

Reciting Surah Al-Ikhlas 3 times before sleeping, grounds your heart in Tawhid. Proclaiming your pure devotion to your Creator right before sleep washes away spiritual doubts, invites immediate divine love, and qualifies you for heavenly protection

قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ اللَّهُ الصَّمَدُ لَمْ يَلِدْ وَلَمْ يُولَدْ وَلَم يَكُن لَّهُ كُفُوًا أَحَدٌ

Pronunciation: Qul Huwa Allahu Ahad Allahu As-Samad Lam yalid wa lam yulad Wa lam yakun lahu kufuwan ahad
Translation: Say, He is Allah, [Who is] One, Allah, the Eternal Refuge. He neither begets nor is born, Nor is there to Him any equivalent.

Translation: Say, I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreak From the evil of that which He created And from the evil of darkness when it settles And from the evil of the blowers in knots And from the evil of an envier when he envies.

Translation: Say, “I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind, The Sovereign of mankind, The God of mankind, From the evil of the whisperer who withdraws, Who whispers in the breasts of mankind, Among the jinn and among mankind.
